Intussusception

Abstract
Intussusception may occur regardless of the age of the patient even though it is the most frequent and the most important surgical disease in infancy and childhood. But in my experiences the intussusception is not only an infant disease but also it is frequently seen in adult life.
In P.N.U. hospital for over the ptst 5 years (from Jan. ¢¥62 to Dec. 31, ¢¥66) I had seen 48 cases of intussusception surgically. Incidence of males were decidedly higher than that of females and the ratio was 3 to 1, and that of children were higher than that of adults and the ratio was 1.8 to 1.
In age distribution, 24 cases (50%) were observed under 1 year, and in seasonal incidence, 17 cases (35.4%) were observed in the autumn, but I could not find out its predisposing factor.
8 out of 49 cases were identified polyposis and malignant tumor; 5 cases of polyposis (Peuts-Zegher¢¥s syndrome) in children, 3 cases of malignant tumor in adults. And 45(93.7%) of 48 cases associated with cecum mobile also.
The most common types of the intussusception were ileocolic type in 46% and next common types were ileocecal type in 21%.
The cardinal symptoms and signs were crampy intermittent abdominal paln, a palpable abdominal mass, bloody or mucous bloody stool, and vomiting. But we must keep in our mind another symptoms and such as abdominal distension and Dance¢¥s sign.
Surgical mortality was 10.4%, which had correlation with duration from onset to operation.
